Why Privacy Matters

Why Privacy Matters

My first post!  Much more coming soon as time goes on.  I plan to explore the topic of “Why Privacy Matters” on many different levels as this site develops.  Privacy matters for different reasons for different people, but it certainly does matter.  Some do not think it matters at all, and feel they have no control over their privacy, especially in the digital age.  I have my own personal reasons for why privacy concerns are important, which I will share here in the future.  For now, a couple thought provoking quotes on privacy to get us started.

“A child born today will grow up with no conception of privacy at all. They’ll never know what it means to have a private moment to themselves, an unrecorded, unanalyzed thought. And that’s a problem because privacy matters; privacy is what allows us to determine who we are and who we want to be.” – Edward Snowden

“Arguing that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.” – Edward Snowden

Here is an article I enjoyed reading of an interview by Popular Science writer Matt Giles. Edward Snowden: The Internet Is Broken

Below is an excellent speech on “Why privacy matters” by Glenn Greenwald (a must see).  Enjoy, and stay tuned for more on why privacy matters in the future.
